Painting at new house

So it's now July 22, 2009 and we are down at the new house cleaning and painting all the rooms that the neighbor has emptied out for us, everything is now piled into the living room that they need to move, so we will be working on the bedrooms and bathrooms and getting some outside things touched up with fresh paint as well today :)

yup, won't be long and we will get to clean and paint in here too

but for now, you can see the "before" and "after of the lower level bathroom
and yes, someday we will definitely be replacing some countertops and sink/tub, but for now we can deal with the vintage 1965 stuff LOL

"before"

"after"
nothing like some a window treatment, new flooring and paint can make a big difference!!
It's getting there a little at a time, by the time we move our stuff in we can at least know it's been cleaned and painted and revamped :)

hand rail scraped/sanded and repainted, should last a few years now ~ and do you see the weeping cherry tree above, oh yes, that needs to come out, because I am putting in my fish pond a little higher up from where it is, I want to see it out the front big window :)

Garage door scraped off and getting a new paint job

ha ha, and remember I said the washer and dryer would not be in my kitchen? . . .
it was the first thing that got ripped out!!

was ever so happy to NOT see that in the kitchen!

and how about the lower level bedroom, which will be my office/computer room? Remember that spacey looking wall lamp?

"before"

and after ~ yes, that spacey looking wall lamp is still there, decided to keep it for my artwork I will be doing when I get my work table moved down here ~ repainted, scrubbed the wonderful hardwood floors, put up new  roman shades and have some of my office furniture moved in

am loving the color I am getting on the walls in my office!! as you can see, one wall is still white, haven't gotten that far, and need to touch up around the ceiling yet
and LOVE my new roman shades, can't wait to get everything in here and all set up!

then what was the "piano" room is turning into our bedroom on the main level and even though I liked the color it was, well it may look pretty in the picture, but it needed major touch ups everywhere, so decided to paint it fresh and neutral
"before"

and in progress, the piano and bed are waiting to be moved, so we just had to paint around it, shoved them into the center of the room so we could begin neutral paint and get the roman shades up :)

woo hooie, it's getting there ~ next will be the upstairs kidders bedroom cleaning and painting!!
are we having fun yet? . . .

Last family gathering at old house

It's been a wonderful 8 years at the old house, we survived a flood in 2005 in which we were out of the home for 4 months while they lifted the home, tore out the collapsing basement and rebuilt it, all during our oldest sons senior year of school, but we survived that and had some great times remodeling and rebuilding everything, gonna miss you old house!

So here we are, the last family gathering at the old place, we will see you all again from now on at the new house!! Happy 4th of July!!

even the critters tried to get in the last family photo!!

Great Grandmother Landis' homestead

Took a little trip with my sister out to visit a great aunt who lives next door to where my Great Grandparent Landis' lived, took some photos, the new owner has added a bathroom onto the front of the house, when great grandma lived there we had to use the outhouse! it's gone now ha ha
the new owner had plans on siding the rest of the house, not sure when, but they have added a new roof to it and new windows as well, they seem to keep it pretty nice, and they love the area
little work shed on my great aunts property LOVE THIS!!!
I can see some old weathered wood window boxes made to hang on the windows with some bright red geraniums in them ;0)

Break at end of June 2009

Well hell . . . we still are working on figuring out which fish to move to the new house LOL

I think we picked a few to take, now it's time to get away from the flower transplanting and the new house painting chores and head to the lake, what do you say? Grab a picnic lunch and just go for a drive!

yes, sometimes you just need to stop all the rushing and hurrying and just relax and enjoy the scenery

today was one of those days :)
and we ended the weekend with a cousin cookout back in Grandma's rocks in the woods

Meanwhile back at the old house

Meanwhile, back at the old house, we are thinking of how much we are going to miss the greenhouse and that one lonely dandelion in the yard HA ~ We are keeping up this house as well as getting the new house painted and ready, while we wait on the closing date for this house

we have to decide which fish to take along to new house and which ones to leave, trust me, this was a hard decision!! it took awhile LOL

and worrying over the move for the pets . . .
hmmm do you see those clouds? Where on earth did they come from so suddenly?

and then the clouds started rolling in, and it was such a beautiful day too for snapping photos!

He is telling the other one how nice the new house is going to be . . .
but the rains coming, so inside we all go

well we got a little wet but pictures are still pretty when it's raining ~ gonna miss the old house, took us 8 years to get it to where we wanted it :(

so for now, we will just stare out the front windows at all the pretties we will miss when we move

Moving some plants to new home

It's May 2009, we are transplanting some plants on this visit to the new house, we don't actually move in until August 13, 2009, so we have a few months of transplanting and interior painting to get done before we move in, so much nicer to do these things BEFORE you are living in the house right?

How about a few snapshots of the basement dungeon?
oh yes, it certainly needs a makeover, when we live here it will be USED as the laundry room will be moved from the kitchen upstairs to down here . . .

Yup, that's our beast of a tiller, brought it down to create new planting beds to transplant some of my flowers from the old house down here

did a strip bed up the front walkway and moved some plants, looks better already LOL
amazing what a little yardwork can do for a place eh?

and our view from the big front window, ahhh nice
and do you see that scraggley looking shrub, I am told it's a orange or yellow azalea transplanted here in the 70's from West Virginia by the then owners son, who just happened to breed and raise horses in the little red barn in the photo down below

and even better still, a view we will have  looking out the dining room window reveals an awesome heirloom Yellow Transparent apple tree, oh my gosh, can you say excited?!
I am already imagining the applesauce I can make from this gorgeous old tree, in our area, folks would pay an arm n leg for some of these apples!! They go fast at the fruit stands if you can even find them.

and  we put up some new birdhouses today, trying to entice them here before we actually move in :0)

the kids being ornery, waiting on us old farts to finish the yard cleanup we are working on

so they get bored easily, well I knew I didn't like that hand railing to begin with, but now I can see that kids certainly love it for entertaining purposes, spent gosh knows how long sliding down that thing!

that's all for today's visit, we will be back to do more work before we get moved in, see ya then!
